The transition from Lightning to another port, such as USB-C, or to no port at all is something that has been overly discussed, but as it turns out, Apple is perfectly fine with the current setup on the iPhone.
So while so many people suggested on several occasions that going for Type-C is something that Apple itself has been considering, the Cupertino-based tech giant instead preferred to just stick with the Lightning port that everybody has already gotten used to.
But this doesn’t necessarily mean Apple isn’t planning big changes in the long term.
It is, and according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company wants to reduce the number of chargers it offers for its products from 5 to 3. And to do this, Apple is even considering finally giving up on Lightning and embracing USB-C, the universal port that’s already so common in the Android ecosystem.
