Key Points:

• Google has rolled out the latest Gemini models, including 2.0 Flash Thinking (experimental), to the web, Android, and iOS apps.
• The new models offer improved efficiency and speed, with file upload support for all users, and Advanced subscribers receiving a 1M token context window.
• The Deep Research model is now available to all Gemini accounts, with free users having lower research limits than Advanced customers.

As a tech journalist, I’m excited to report that Google has announced the widespread rollout of its latest Gemini models, including 2.0 Flash Thinking (experimental), to the web, Android, and iOS apps. This move follows the usual pattern of Google first releasing new models to gemini.google.com, with mobile apps following a few days later. As of Saturday afternoon, we’re seeing increased availability across multiple Gemini accounts.

The new models, which were first introduced in early February, offer "better efficiency and speed" and allow users to access Gemini apps like Gmail and YouTube, among others. The "with apps" model from last month has been eliminated, and file upload support is now available to all users. Advanced subscribers, however, get an additional 1M token context window.

Another exciting development is the introduction of the Deep Research model, which is now available to all Gemini accounts. This model is powered by Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking (experimental) and can provide in-depth research reports. While free users have lower research limits, Advanced customers can access more comprehensive research capabilities.

For those interested in personalized experiences, Google has also launched a new Personalization (experimental) model, which uses 2.0 Flash Thinking (experimental) to analyze user input and provide tailored suggestions. This feature is currently available to test for all users and can be useful for brainstorming and personalized recommendations.

As part of its efforts to create a personal AI assistant that "doesn’t just answer general questions, but understands you," Google plans to use more than just Search in the future, with YouTube and Photos being two notable examples.

Lastly, Saved info is now widely rolled out, with the Advanced capability to recall and reference past chats when answering prompts soon to be available in over 45 languages.

To make the most of these new features, I recommend exploring the different models available in the Gemini app:

  • 2.0 Flash: For everyday tasks, with additional features
  • 2.0 Flash Thinking (experimental): Uses advanced reasoning
  • Deep Research: Get in-depth research reports
  • Personalization (experimental): Help based on your Search history
  • 2.0 Pro (experimental): Best for complex tasks

As we await further updates from Google, I encourage you to try out these new features and share your experiences with us.
