Is Apple Botching the iPhone? 70% of Android Phones to Have Fingerprint Sensor

Apple has officially given up on the fingerprint sensor for the anniversary iPhone X, going instead all-in on facial recognition, but it turns out that this isn’t a trend that the other phone manufacturers are going to adopt anytime soon.

This is the conclusion that Counterpoint Research has come down to after conducting an in-depth research on the 2018 phone market, estimating that no less than 70 percent of smartphones launching next year would have a fingerprint sensor.

The results are not at all surprising, especially because fingerprint sensors have gotten substantially cheaper in the last couple of years, even though they were originally available on high-end models exclusively.

Furthermore, with an average cost of $1 to $2 in China, fingerprint sensors have made it to the majority of Chinese smartphones, and this is one of the reasons you can now purchase a budget Android device that costs around $100, but with such security hardware on board.
