Apple has recently prototyped a 6.7-inch iPhone that doesn’t feature a notch, with the Face ID and all the required components for the facial recognition system embedded right into the top bezel.
This information comes from Ben Geskin, who has a good track on mobile scoops, and if true, could be the first step towards a world without a notch on the iPhone.
The notch debuted on the iPhone X as one of the most controversial design features ever, and its role was to house Face ID and the TrueDepth camera system while reducing bezels to a minimum.
While other phones boasted a notch before iPhone X, Apple is considered the pioneer of this feature, pretty much because it made it more mainstream, leading to other manufacturers to embrace the same idea, not necessarily to embed facial recognition system, but to join this new design trend and increase the available screen estate as much as possible.
