According to a report from Commercial Times, the Cupertino-based tech giant is planning to release the M2 chip at some point in 2022. This new model is currently referred to as Staten and will be based on a 4nm platform, therefore delivering even higher efficiency and improved performance.
2023 is very likely to witness the debut of the M2 Pro and M2 Max. Codenamed Rhodes, the new chips will see the daylight in the first half of the year, and needless to say, the same 4nm fabrication process is going to be used as well.
The M1 chip
At this point, Apple’s existing custom chips are built using a 5nm process, and the Cupertino-based iPhone maker says this allows for impressive performance achievements for devices using them.
