Today, Apple was granted 42 patents by the US Patent and Trademark Office. The patents cover various new technologies, including facial detection. The new patent application shows how Apple could use a new method to detect human faces.
The technology could be the precursor of a face-based bio-recognition system that could debut on the upcoming iPhone 8, according to Apple Insider. The patent application is titled “Enhanced face detection using depth information” and describes computer vision technology to recognize objects and human faces.
Face detection algorithms will be capable of scanning a digital image and analyzing it for detecting human faces. The technology could be applied to dynamic scenes like live videos that involve moving objects and users.
