Key Points:
- Apple’s upgraded Siri feature may not be fully ready for iOS 18.4, which is expected to be released soon.
- The new Siri features include Personal Context Understanding, Onscreen Awareness, and In-App Actions, which were announced at the Worldwide Developer Conference in June.
- Software bugs may delay the release of some or all of these features until iOS 18.5, expected to be released as early as May.
As tech enthusiasts eagerly await the latest updates from Apple, news from Bloomberg suggests that the enhanced version of Siri might not be ready for the upcoming iOS 18.4. While Apple initially planned to introduce the new features as part of iOS 18.4, internal issues and software bugs might force a delay until iOS 18.5, which could arrive as early as May.
At the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June, Apple unveiled three significant upgrades to Siri: Personal Context Understanding, Onscreen Awareness, and In-App Actions. These features aim to revolutionize how users interact with their devices. For instance, with Personal Context Understanding, Siri can provide answers to questions tailored to individual users, such as recalling a specific message or finding information related to a particular event. Onscreen Awareness enables Siri to recognize and respond to on-screen objects, allowing users to, for example, ask Siri to edit a screenshot or send a message to a friend recommending a new coffee shop.
In-App Actions, on the other hand, allows Siri to perform a wide range of tasks within various apps. This means users could say, "Make this photo warmer," and Siri would adjust the photo using the Photos app.
Unfortunately, testing has shown that these features don’t work consistently, and Apple is considering delaying or limiting the rollout until iOS 18.5. The good news is that Apple still has until August to release these features, with iOS 19 beta arriving in June. For now, Apple hasn’t given a specific release date for the new Siri features, leaving users eagerly awaiting the updates.
While the initial delay might be frustrating, Apple’s commitment to perfecting these features shows that we can expect a more refined and polished experience when the new Siri finally arrives. In the meantime, users can keep an eye out for the upcoming iOS 18.4 beta, set to debut as early as next week.
