Key Points:

• Apple has released the first betas of iOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3, but the new Mail app is not yet available for iPad and Mac.
• The new Mail app, which was introduced with iOS 18.2, has a modern look and categorizes emails into Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions, but it’s only available for iPhone users.
• Apple has not announced a timeline for the new Mail app’s release on iPad and Mac, but marketing images suggest it may arrive with future updates, such as iPadOS 18.4 and macOS 15.4, expected in April 2025.

Apple has released the first betas of iOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3, just a few days after the public release of iOS 18.2. While there aren’t many new features to report, one notable absence is the redesigned Mail app, which was introduced with iOS 18.2. Unfortunately, this new app is still not available on iPad and Mac.

The new Mail app, which was teased at WWDC 2024, has a more modern look and uses smart categorization to organize your email inbox into Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions. It also makes it easier to see who sent you each email. However, it’s only available for iPhone users, leaving Mac and iPad users waiting.

Apple hasn’t given a timeline for the new Mail app’s release on iPad and Mac, but some marketing images of the M4 Macs released in October show the redesigned app on the desktop. This suggests that the update will eventually reach these devices, possibly with future updates, such as iPadOS 18.4 and macOS 15.4, expected in April 2025.

This isn’t the first time Apple has split the rollout of new features between devices. For example, the Genmoji feature was introduced for iPhone and iPad users with iOS 18.2, but it arrived on Mac with macOS 15.3 beta 1. Some users have even criticized the new Mail app, saying it’s too cluttered, so they may be relieved not to have to deal with the update just yet.

For now, iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS 15.3 are expected to be released to the public sometime between January and February. In the meantime, if you’re interested in exploring the new Mail app on your iPhone, you can do so, and if you’re not a fan of the new interface, you can always revert to the old design.
