Apple will remain the only company offering facial recognition based on 3D sensing sensors for a few more months, as Android phone makers won’t be able to deliver an alternative to the iPhone X feature too soon.
A report from Digitimes indicates that the first Android model to get 3D sensing tech is expected to see daylight in the third quarter of this year due to what it calls “insufficient capability to integrate related hardware and software at 3D sensing solution providers.”
One particular setback that doesn’t allow a faster implementation of 3D sensing modules in Android phones is the tech built by Qualcomm, Himax Technologies and Truly Opto-electronics requiring the Snapdragon 845 processor.
