iOS 18.4: A Revelation for EU Apple Fans – No iPhone Mirroring, But What’s Next?

Share

Key Points:

  • iOS 18.4 has been released to developers and beta testers, adding non-English languages to Apple Intelligence and enabling AI features for EU users.
  • iPhone Mirroring remains unavailable in the European Union due to regulatory uncertainties caused by the Digital Markets Act.
  • The feature will likely remain unavailable until Apple can find a way to comply with the law without compromising the integrity of its products.

As we reported earlier, Apple’s recent announcement of iOS 18.4 seemed to hint that the company might finally enable iPhone Mirroring in the European Union (EU) with this update. However, it appears that’s not the case. Despite the update introducing non-English languages to Apple Intelligence and enabling AI features for EU users, iPhone Mirroring remains unavailable in most European countries.

So, what’s going on? According to Apple, the feature has been disabled for EU users due to "regulatory uncertainties" caused by the Digital Markets Act (DMA) antitrust legislation. The company claims that the DMA’s "interoperability requirements" could force them to "compromise the integrity of our products" and put users at risk.

This raises questions about why Apple Intelligence, which is also a feature that shares similarities with iPhone Mirroring, has been enabled in the EU while iPhone Mirroring remains unavailable. Unfortunately, Apple doesn’t provide a clear answer to this question, leaving us to speculate about the reasons behind this decision.

In the meantime, iPhone users in the EU will have to continue looking for alternative ways to mirror their screens, such as using third-party apps or cables. If you’re eagerly awaiting the update, you shouldn’t have to wait much longer: iOS 18.4 will be officially released to the public in early April.

For now, if you’re an EU-based iPhone user, you might want to take this as an opportunity to explore some of the other awesome features in iOS 18.4, such as SharePlay Screen Sharing, which provides a new way to share your screen with others on FaceTime. Who knows, you might even discover some new ways to stay productive (or entertained!) in the meantime.
