Discord has announced a new feature to aid users in handling unwanted interactions – the "Ignore" button. This feature comes as part of the Safer Internet Day 2025 campaign, aimed at promoting online safety and awareness.
The "Ignore" button provides users with an easy way to take a step back from unwanted interactions without raising any suspicions. When activated, the feature will hide messages, direct messages (DMs), notifications, and status updates from the ignored user. This will allow users to discreetly take a break or avoid interacting with someone without resorting to the more drastic step of blocking.
Discord cites user feedback from teenagers, stating that blocking someone can sometimes be perceived as confrontational and intimidating. The new "Ignore" button aims to provide a less confrontational approach to managing online interactions.
In addition to introducing the "Ignore" button, Discord is teaming up with the non-profit organization ROOST (Robust Open Online Safety Tools) to combat child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online. The partnership will enable the development and distribution of free, open-source tools for detecting and reporting CSAM.
Existing Discord users can access the app on the web or download it from the App Store, making it possible to use this new feature from their iPhone or other iOS devices.
