Apple is close to releasing the latest iteration of its mobile operating system, iOS 18.3, which means that we’re just around the corner from seeing the upcoming iOS 18.4 beta. With that, we’re expecting significant improvements to Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant.
The previous Siri improvements in iOS 18 have laid the groundwork for what’s to come. With faster responses and better language processing, the ability to type to Siri, and integration with Apple product knowledge, Siri has already become a more useful tool. However, iOS 18.4 is poised to take it to the next level.
The three major upgrades coming to Siri in iOS 18.4 are:
Personal Context: Siri will now be able to understand and leverage the personal information stored on your device, making it easier to access and retrieve important data without having to dig through notes, texts, or emails.
On-Screen Awareness: Siri will be able to understand and take action with content on your screen, allowing you to ask Siri to perform tasks on specific elements within an app, such as sending a text to a friend’s new address.
Taking Action in Apps: Siri will now be able to seamlessly interact with apps, enabling you to request actions and follow-ups without lifting a finger, such as asking Siri to enhance a photo and then sending it to a note in the Notes app.
These upgrades will bring Siri closer to its promise of being a powerful personal assistant. Third-party apps will also be able to integrate with these features, and we’ve already seen many apps supporting Siri integration since iOS 18 debuted in September.
Looking ahead, rumors suggest that iOS 19 will introduce even more conversational interactions with Siri, allowing users to have back-and-forth conversations similar to a chatbot like ChatGPT. This feature, dubbed "LLM Siri," is expected to arrive in the spring of 2026.
While the gap between feature announcement and public release can be lengthy, it’s clear that Apple is committed to making Siri an indispensable tool in our daily lives. With the upcoming iOS 18.4 beta and eventual public release in the spring, we’ll be able to see these upgrades in action.
