Key Points
• Apple has added the Apple Watch Series 4 to its list of vintage products, which means it’s no longer eligible for new software updates.
• The 2019 15-inch MacBook Pro has also been added to the list of vintage products, but it can still run the latest version of macOS.
• The Apple Watch Series 4 was the first major redesign of the Apple Watch, featuring larger displays, thinner bezels, and rounder corners.
As the new year begins, Apple has updated its list of vintage and obsolete products. The latest additions include the Apple Watch Series 4 and the 2019 15-inch MacBook Pro. Apple Watch Series 4 is now considered a vintage product worldwide, marking the end of its software support. This means that the watch will no longer receive new updates, and its users will have to rely on previous versions of watchOS.
The Apple Watch Series 4 was a significant update to the Apple Watch lineup, featuring larger displays, thinner bezels, and rounder corners. It was announced in September 2018 and was the first major redesign of the Apple Watch. However, its software support has now come to an end with the release of watchOS 11.
On the other hand, the 2019 15-inch MacBook Pro has been added to the list of vintage products, but it can still run the latest version of macOS. This is because it was the last 15-inch MacBook Pro released by Apple, and it was replaced by the 16-inch MacBook Pro, which was the last with an Intel processor.
It’s worth noting that Apple considers a product to be "vintage" when it has been out of distribution for more than five years. When a product hasn’t been distributed for more than seven years, it’s then considered obsolete. Vintage products are still eligible for repairs when parts are available, while obsolete products are not.
If you’re still using an Apple Watch Series 4 or a 2019 15-inch MacBook Pro, you can check the full list of vintage and obsolete products on Apple’s website. If you’re due for an upgrade, you might want to consider the latest Apple Watch models or the new MacBook Pro lineup, which features Apple’s M1 chip.
In the meantime, you can continue to use your existing devices, but keep in mind that you won’t receive any new software updates or security patches.
