Key Points:

  • Apple’s AirTags allow for seamless AirTag sharing with friends and family
  • The new Share Item Location feature works with any device, no Apple ID required
  • This feature enhances travel security, allowing everyone in the group to track all bags and devices

As I’ve shared in my previous coverage of AirTags, I was excited to get my hands on this technology and immediately put them to good use. With the recent release of iOS 18.2, I was eager to explore the new Share Item Location feature, which allows for easy sharing of AirTags with friends and family. In this article, I’ll delve into how this feature enhances the already impressive capabilities of AirTags, making it easier for you to stay connected and secure in your travels.

For those who, like me, are bagaholics, having an AirTag in each main bag is a must. These tiny devices provide tremendous peace of mind, ensuring that your belongings are always within reach. But what about the less-frequently used bags? Simply borrow an AirTag to temporarily protect the bag you’re using, giving you that extra layer of security. I’ve found this feature particularly useful when traveling with friends or family, as we can lend each other an AirTag for mutual peace of mind.

The original sharing feature, which requires an Apple ID and an Apple device, has its limitations. Share Item Location, on the other hand, breaks these barriers, allowing anyone with a device to track your AirTagged items, regardless of their platform. This means that when traveling with friends or family, you can share your AirTag links easily, giving them oversight over all your bags.

Imagine the relief of knowing that someone else can locate your belongings if your phone or bag goes missing. This is precisely what Share Item Location offers, providing an added layer of security that will put your mind at ease. In the worst-case scenario, if someone were to snatch my phone and main bag, my travel companion would be able to instantly track my possessions on their own device, giving us a second chance to regroup and stay safe.

To get started with AirTag sharing, check out our simple how-to guide. With the new Share Item Location feature, you’ll be able to enhance your travel security and ensure that everyone in your party has oversight over all bags and devices. Happy travels!
