Now at version 12.45, YouTube for iOS doesn’t include anything else than a fix “for an issue with battery usage,” which is living proof that Google has been well aware of the complaints from the Apple community and silently worked on a patch.
YouTube has slowly become one of the main battery hogs on iOS, with lots of iPhone users giving up on the official client and looking for alternatives just because battery usage reached record levels. Unfortunately, several third-party YouTube clients for the iPhone were pulled from the App Store lately, so options in this regard were quite limited, with many deciding instead to stick with the browser version of YouTube.
Using YouTube in the browser comes with several limitations as well, including the lack of HD support, which is obviously a major setback when comparing it with the official… (read more)
