As a tech enthusiast, I’m excited to share the latest news from the world of iOS. Apple’s Passwords app in iOS 18.4 beta 1 is now available, and it’s packed with a convenient feature enhancement that’s sure to make your online security experience more seamless. For those who use verification codes to access various online accounts, you’ll appreciate the new countdown timer that shows when your codes will expire and reset.

According to Aaron Perris on X, the new feature is designed to provide a visual representation of the time left on your current verification codes. By opening the Codes section of the Passwords app, you’ll notice a new timer in the top-right corner of the screen. This wheel-like timer fills in with green as the time left on your codes decreases. When the circle is fully green, all your codes will automatically expire and reset.

This nifty feature is not limited to the main Passwords app window; you can also view the timer from the details view of a specific password entry. Any entry containing a verification code will now show the expiration timer alongside the current code. This feature is also included in macOS Sequoia 15.4 and works within the Passwords Menu Bar app.

While it’s a small change, this addition is a significant enhancement for an important security feature. No longer will you need to wonder when your codes will expire or try to keep track of multiple timers; the Passwords app will do it for you. Stay safe online with this subtle yet impactful update in iOS 18.4!

If you’re eager to try out this new feature, you can download the public beta of iOS 18.4 from the Apple Beta Software Program website. And if you’re not already using the Passwords app, consider giving it a try to take advantage of this and other security enhancements. Happy upgrading!
