The iPhone 8 might indeed have a battery problem, but the only reports we’ve seen so far pointed to swelling batteries that inflated either in the box, so the customers noticed the defect when unboxing it, or when charging for the first time.
But today we came across what could be the very first report of an exploding iPhone equipped with a bad battery. Before everything, it’s important to note that this report comes from China and it includes very limited information as to how the whole incident took place and whether third-party accessories were used or not.
Chinese site OrientalDaily reports that a woman named Xiaomin got a 64GB iPhone 8 for her father and left it plugged in to charge overnight. She fell asleep and woke up in the morning to discover the iPhone 8 burnt on the nightstand with what appears to be a gigantic hole in the middle of the back cover where the battery would normally be.
